President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated an 81-kilometre section of the Abuja–Kaduna highway.

The inauguration of the road project preceded the official flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) nationwide presidential campaign, marking the beginning of President Tinubu’s bid for a second four-year term in office.

Speaking at the campaign ground in Kaduna, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, described the newly completed road section as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to modernise critical transport infrastructure, improve road connectivity and facilitate economic activities across the North-West.

The 81-kilometre stretch forms part of the larger Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano highway corridor, a strategic transportation route linking the Federal Capital Territory with major commercial and economic centres in northern Nigeria.

Constructed using continuously reinforced concrete pavement and equipped with streetlights, the road is designed to provide a more durable transport corridor, enhance visibility for motorists and improve travel conditions along the busy highway.

The project also forms part of the Federal Government’s 4,084-kilometre road development programme in the North-West, aimed at expanding transportation networks, strengthening regional connectivity and supporting economic development.

Umahi said the administration had completed the 118-kilometre first section of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano highway within 13 months, while substantial progress had been recorded on the 164-kilometre second section.

The Minister also acknowledged the role of Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani in monitoring the project’s implementation and facilitating its completion.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that the Federal Government had completed 348 kilometres of inherited and newly initiated road projects across the North-West, with another 1,811 kilometres at various stages of completion.

The road inauguration formed part of activities marking the APC presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna, where President Tinubu formally commenced his re-election campaign ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
