Edo State Police Command is delighted to inform the general public and indeed the good people of Edo State, that a new commissioner of Police has been deployed to the state.
Police Commissioner Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, assumed duties and responsibilities of the command, as the 42nd Commissioner of Police.
He succeeds Police Commissioner Lawan Tanko Jimeta who has been redeployed to Bauchi State Police Command.
The New Commissioner of Police was appointed on the 15th March, 1988 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.
He hails from Alimosho, in Alimosho LGA of Lagos State and holds Master of Science Degree in Sociology with specialization in Criminology from the University of Lagos, Bachelor of Science degree with honours in Sociology from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State.
He is an Alumnus of the Prestigious National Institute for Policy and strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau state where he earned through dint of hard work the mni surfix.
He has attended many professional courses, Seminars and Workshops. In the course of his sojourn in the Nigeria Police Force, he attended the following among others;
i. Police Mobile Force Squadron Commanders’ Retreat;
ii. Workshop on Human Rights – this is the reason why he has zero tolerance for Human Rights and Dignity Violation, Infringement and abuse.
iii. Workshop on Human trafficking and forensic Science
iv. Senior Executive course 41, 2019 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).
v. He is a member of International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP); with all these knowledge, you will agree with me that the commissioner of Police is vast in every area. He is an all-rounder. He is a jack of all trade, master of all.
He has served the force in various including but not limited to the following;
i. Operations officer in Lagos state Command, during the reign of Terror of notorious armed robber Sina Rambo.
ii. Teaching and Directing Staff at the Nigeria Police Premier Training Institution, that is, Police College Ikeja
iii. Divisional Police Officer both in Lagos and Ogun States; during the reign of terror of notorious Amani Tijani, a cross border bandit.
iv. Commanding officer-Squadron No 16 Police Mobile Force.
v. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations in Ogun State
vi. Area Commander, Karewa, Adamawa State; where he participated actively in the fight against Boko Haram elements / terrorists.
vii. Assistant Commissioner of Police In-charge of Anti-Robbery and Anti-Kidnapping, Special Operations South-East, Nigeria.
viii. Assistant Commissioner of Police Federal Special Anti-Robbery squad, (FSARS)
ix. Deputy Commissioner of Police, General Investigation Section of the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.

The 38th Commissioner of Police Edo State Command, where he recorded tremendous achievements, such as the establishment of the Police Marine Base in the state and his tenure witnessed a revolutionary change in the act of Policing as criminals particularly kidnappers were fought on Land, on the Waters and from the Air.

He wishes to assure the good people of Edo State that, he has come to serve them with humility and integrity building o0n the records and achievements of his predecessor.
The Command under the watch of the new CP will ensure Zero tolerance for corruption and a robust/healthy respect for the citizens’ fundamental rights. All manners of professional misconduct will not be tolerated.
He is strongly appealing to the good people of Edo State to continue to see the police as their own, while soliciting for cooperation in terms of information gathering and sharing. Participation of Edolites in Policing their Communities will be encouraged as this forms the basis of the current Community Policing Philosophy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu NPM, mni.
