The Police on Wednesday arrested Kingsley Aikponhelea over alleged theft of two solar batteries at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Spokesperson for the Lagos Airport Police Command, Joseph Alabi, confirmed the development in Lagos, saying the suspect was apprehended after he sustained injuries when the Toyota Carina car with registration number CG208GGE, was attacked by a yet to be identified individual.

“The suspect was seen with two solar batteries by an unknown person who attempted to stop him.

“When he refused to stop, the person threw a big stone at him and the stone smashed the windscreen of his car.

“As a result, he had to stop due to the injuries he sustained. However, the unknown individual escaped upon seeing some police officers coming to the scene,’’ Alabi said.

Alabi said the suspect was thereafter taken to a hospital for treatment and further investigation, while effort was being made to arrest the fleeing person.

As at the time of filing this report, Aikponhelea was still being detained at the Headquarters of the Command.

According to a reliable source, the solar batteries are normally used to power Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras within the airport environment.
