Lagos State Police Command has paraded four new recruits of the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, and seven others including an employee of the Lagos State Water Corporation for vandalising iron pipes worth about twenty-five million naira.
Air Crew Men Akingbola Wole, Ugbong Abel, Alalifu George and Kumish Revelation attached to 055 NAF Camp, Victoria Island, were contracted by the Water Board’s employee, Olayiwole Oyedele to provide security during the vandalism on Saturday morning.
Also arrested were the buyer, Okechukwu Alozie, Wale Lawal, Babatunde Samson, Ismaila Adejare, Iliasu Ibrahim and Ikechukwu Ezemba.
Oyedele was said to have sold the irons to Alozie for six hundred and fifty thousand naira and had already collected two hundred thousand naira upfront.
According to Oyedele, he agreed to pay the soldiers thirty-five thousand naira for their service, saying Wole collected twenty thousand naira as advance payment.
Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi confirmed the arrest while parading the men and other suspects arrested in the last two weeks in the state.
Imohimi said the suspects that wore military camouflage where arrested at Doyin Bus stop, Orile area, where they allegedly vandalised the public utility.
He said one Clerk crane and Iveco G3 truck with Reg. no. MUS 772 XD were recovered from them.
“The Air Force personnel will be handed over to their Commanding Officer, while other suspects will be charged to court.
“The air force men would be brought back to the police for prosecution after they would have been disciplined by their office,” Imohimi said.
The commissioner also presented three other suspects who specialised in duping and Making ritual for unsuspecting citizens within Lekki Phase 11, Ajah environs.
The commissioners said the suspects would be charged to court “soon”.
A total of twenty-one suspects of various crimes were presented at the occasion.
