Pankshin unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau, tried 63 erring drivers and convicted 56 of them.
According to its Commander, Nnamdi Akeh-Akabo, We arrested and tried 63 drivers over various traffic offences. Seven were discharged while 56 were sentenced after being found guilty.
He said 90 offences were identified including driving without valid license, overloading, the non-use of Speed Limit Device, among others.
We were shocked to find many drivers, especially commercial ones, still overloading their cars despite our repeated campaigns over the years.
We penalised them to deter to others; we want to make our roads accident free,” he said.
The commander said the mobile court in Pankshin would be strengthened to deal with drivers that disobeyed traffic rules and regulations, and warned those fond of doing that to desist in their own interest.
The FRSC officer particularly warned drivers against speeding, overloading their vehicles and driving without license, and warned that anyone caught would face the full wrath of the law.
Akeh-Akabo, who lauded the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NUTW) for its support, appealed to its officials to prevail on erring members to avoid breaking traffic rules and regulations.
