The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), FCT Sector Command, has secured the conviction of one Moses Omokaiye Peter for a combination of serious traffic offences, including Use of Phone While Driving, Dangerous Driving, assaulting a Marshal on Duty and Absconding with an Officer.
Following his arrest, the offender was arraigned before His Worship Abubakar Jega, Magistrate of the FRSC Mobile Court sitting at the FCT Sector Command, Abuja.
In line with the proceedings, the court sentenced him to five days of community service, a fine of N300,000 and suspension of his driver’s licence for three months, in accordance with Regulation 65 of the National Road Traffic Regulations (NRTR), 2012.
The case arose from an incident at about 1100HRS on the same day during a Mobile Court operation at the FCT Sector Command.
According to the case report, the defendant attempted to evade arrest by absconding with the arresting Marshal, an action that resulted in the charge of assaulting a Marshal on duty.
Expectedly, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed while applauding the judgement, reiterates that enforcement personnel performing their lawful duties must be treated with respect and that attempts to evade arrest, obstruct enforcement or assault a Marshal will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
More so, the Corps also reminds motorists that the use of mobile phones while driving and other dangerous driving practices place lives at risk and will continue to attract appropriate enforcement action.
