Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Niger Command, James Mbatse, has called for the establishment of a Road Traffic Agency in the state.

Mbatse said the agency, if established, would complement the efforts of the corps in preventing road accidents.

He said the agency would assist the FRSC to effectively monitor road users, especially on federal highways, and that its creation would also give room for massive employment of youths.

He also called on motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to procure and install the Speed Limiting Device in their vehicles.

This, Mbatse said, would greatly assist in preventing road accidents, especially on the highways.

He, however, identified violation of traffic rules and regulations as a major factor contributing to road traffic accidents.

Most of the accidents in the metropolis, especially among commercial motorcyclists, can be traced to the nonchallant attitude of road users to traffic rules,” he said.

The sector commander said the commission had reached out to the various transport unions to sensitise them on what to avoid while on the wheels.
