Acting Director, Defence Information, Brigadier-General Rabe Abubakar, has called for new relations between security agencies and the media to address security challenges in the country.
Abubakar made the call in Abuja at the meeting of the Forum of Spokespersons of the military, Police and other security agencies.
He said in the past there were no cordial relations between the media and security agencies but added that the situation would no longer be allowed to continue.
Abubakar, however, urged the media to always be conscious of national security while reporting security issues.
The media must compliment our efforts to address the current security challenges in the country,” he said.
Other spokespersons of security agencies spoke in similar vein, saying that they would continue to work with the media.
They said while they reposed confidence in the media and would not hide anything from newsmen, the journalists must reciprocate that confidence by reporting positively.
The meeting later went into closed door.
