Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ogun State Command, said on Thursday road mishaps claimed 22 lives in December 2016.

Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, said the 22 persons lost their lives in 27 road crashes, adding that the number was the lowest in the last eight years.

Records show that the 27 road crashes occurred in Ogun State is the lowest in the last eight years and that is between 2008 and 2016.

With a peak of 98 crashes in December 2010, an average of 63 crashes were usually recorded on highways in Ogun State every December in the last eight years.

These strategic measures were responsible for this significant reduction of crashes from 48 in December 2015 to 27 crashes in December 2016, which is a 44 per cent reduction in road traffic crashes.

Fatalities were also kept on a constant of 22 deaths during the same period,’’ the sector commander said.

Oladele said the FRSC would consolidate on the feat and solicited more public cooperation, to enable it to make Ogun highways the safest in the country.
