Lagos State Police Command has denied the news of alleged lynching of a seven-year-old for stealing garri in the Badagry area of the state.
Reports and videos making the rounds on the social media indicate that the boy was set ablaze after being beaten up.
According to Security and Judiciary Correspondent, Jide Alli-balogun, the reports caused outrage on the social media with many Nigerians calling for an investigation into the incident and an end to jungle justice.
However, Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni said there was no truth in the purported lynching of the seven-year-old boy over garri theft, saying it was untrue.
He said if that incident actually happened, be assured that the perpetrators would be arrested and prosecuted, as the command would not tolerate jungle justice irrespective of the offence committed.
