The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated a new tactical unit, the ‘Command Sweepers Squad’, to address rising criminal activity in Ikorodu.
It says the move follows public outcry from residents over insecurity in parts of the axis.
Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai said the squad is a temporary intervention force set up to restore public confidence and curb crime in Ikorodu and surrounding communities.
CP Fatai said the squad personnel are drawn from the Command’s Tactical Teams, Rapid Response Squad, Eko Strike Force, and three Police Mobile Force units, and other security agencies and the Civilian Joint Task Force.
He stated that the Squad would be based in Ijede for quick deployment, equipped with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers provided by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
According to him, officers have been assigned to target known black spots and criminal hideouts through intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search operations, and visibility patrols.
Fatai assured residents that the operation will be carried out professionally and within the law.
He urged the public to stay vigilant and support the squad by reporting suspicious activity through the Command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
