Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has said the Police Community Relations Committee,PCRC, is a critical component in crime prevention in Nigeria.

Idris who spoke at the committee’s quarterly meeting, urged members of the committee to always see themselves as critical stakeholders in crime prevention and management.

Idris who spoke through Force Spokesman, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Don Awunah, also urged them to always work within the ambit of the constitution.

Earlier, the National Chairman of PCRC, Maiyama Faruk, said the committee was planning to establish Operation Campus Security and neighbourhood security to fight crime.

Faruk expressed worry over the current crisis rocking the country, most especially at the tertiary institutions.

He sought the approval of Idris to register with the Corporate Affairs Commission to have unified and well structured association.

The chairman said the primary responsibility of PCRC was to provide support and assistance to the police and others security agencies in fighting crime in the country.

He assured Idris of the committee’s total support to the Force in crime prevention.
