Federal Road Safety Corps has called for the trial of a driver who killed three of the Corps’ marshals in Tsafe, Zamfara State.
Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi said the driver of an unregistered Volkwagen Golf had killed the marshals and injured a Policeman and a staff of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps while they were on patrol activities at a mobile court.
Oyeyemi giving an account of the incident, called for the driver to be made to face the law for the killings, saying while carrying out their lawful duties at a mobile court located at Talata Mafara, four FRSC staff, one Policeman, one personnel from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps were hit by the Golf driver, killing three FRSC Marshals and injuring one.
According to him, the driver was arrested and handed over to the Police for further investigation and necessary action, saying thirty-five regular marshals of the Corps have been killed by motorists on highways across the country in the past one year while on official duties, with seven of them from Niger State.
He said in one of the incidents in Minna, an FRSC marshal was knocked down by a driver while trying to clear obstructions on the highway, saying the marshal had gone through two operations and might lose his private part as a result of injuries he sustained.
