The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has advocated for the use of sports in the promotion and improvement of a healthy living and active lifestyle across Lagos State.

Its Director-General, Lekan Fatodu, made this known at the Teslim Balogun Stadium office of the Sports Commission when Ade Enioluwa, a foodie, marathon athlete and brand ambassador of Nestle water, paid him a courtesy visit.

Fatodu disclosed that the Commission’s mandate goes beyond organising programmes and events but also includes the engagement of state and non-state actors in the promotion of an active, healthy lifestyle.

“Ours is not just organising competitions and programmes. We want to see the interventions of state and non-state actors who are actually amplifying the message around healthy and active living,” he said.

Fatodu cited a global example of a one-time UK policy encouraging people to alight at a bus stop before their destination to promote walking, noting that “every step that you take counts in improving your health.”

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, according to the Director-General, has allowed the opening of the Commission to everyone advancing sporting excellence in the state, thereby shifting the focus since 2024 to sporting recreational engagement, talent identification, and collaborations that promote wellness.

In his words, “The goal is to build a sporting ecosystem where health, culture, and opportunity meet. With millions of views already on sports-related content from Lagos, the Commission is working to scale partnerships that encourage Lagosians to move more, eat well, and live better while promoting our own leading individuals who are advancing public health through sports.”

Ade Enioluwa, who did not hide his love for food, said he eats a lot and exercises well.

The marathoner, who recently completed the Lagos Run in 4:56:00, also shared information on his preparation for the forthcoming sub-four Nestle Water Marathon in November later in the year.

According to him, “Discipline and consistency keep him going despite his commitment to other things.”

“Beyond six-packs and awards, his biggest motivation is his support team and the desire to show young people that, if you put your mind to things, you can achieve far more than you think you can,” he added.

The young lad was presented with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his active lifestyle alongside food packs to encourage and promote healthy living through good food for nutrition and exercise.
