The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, FUTU, Dr. Mukail Akinde, at the Board Room of the institution.
During the visit, the Commissioner of Police commended the university management for its continuous support to the Nigeria Police Force, particularly the donation of a newly constructed police building to strengthen security within and around the university community.
He noted that the gesture would contribute significantly to addressing the security challenges currently facing the nation and appreciated the institution’s commitment to promoting a safe and secure environment.
Ojajuni also emphasised the need for more student accommodation within and around the university to reduce the distance students travel in search of housing.
According to him, having students reside closer to the institution would make monitoring easier and further enhance their safety.
The Commissioner of Police further assured the university management of the command’s continued support in maintaining peace and security.
He promised that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to partner with the institution to ensure a safe, secure, and conducive environment.
In his response, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, Dr. Mukail Akinde, expressed delight over the Commissioner of Police’s courtesy visit.
He appreciated the Commissioner of Police, the Area Commander, and the Squadron Commander for their prompt response and unwavering support whenever the institution required security intervention.
Dr. Akinde stated that the construction of the police post was made possible through the support of the University’s Governing Council and the Olu of Ilaro, with the aim of providing a comfortable and conducive operational base for police personnel deployed to the institution.
He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring the safety and security of staff, students, and the entire university community.
The Commissioner of Police was accompanied on the visit by ACP Femi Awoyale, ACP Akinmoladun Olu-Moore, ACP Bamidele Job, and ACP Bilaminu Katibi, among other senior police officers.
Also present were members of the university’s management team, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Dr. C Iro- Idoro; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Admin), TPL Lasisi; and other principal officers and top management staff of the institution, the student union government representative led by the President Adeyemi Emmanuel Damilare were also present.
