Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered ₦2.2 million believed to be ransom proceeds, following a sustained operation that led to the safe rescue of an abducted victim.

The breakthrough came as the Command intensified its anti-kidnapping offensive under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim was kidnapped on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Ogun State.

Following the report of the abduction, the Command immediately deployed its Anti-Kidnapping Unit, which launched an intelligence-driven operation aimed at rescuing the victim and apprehending the perpetrators.

Police said a combination of intelligence gathering, strategic surveillance and sustained operational pressure eventually forced the kidnappers to release the victim unharmed on June 18.

Not satisfied with securing the victim’s freedom alone, operatives intensified efforts to track down the gang members responsible for the crime.

Acting on credible intelligence, detectives traced the suspects to their hideout within the state.

The police said the suspects opened fire on officers upon sighting them in a bid to evade arrest, triggering a gun battle.

“In the ensuing exchange, two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds,” the statement said.

A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, one expended cartridge, a mobile phone and a cash sum of ₦2.2 million suspected to be proceeds of kidnapping and other criminal activities.

The Command said efforts had been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing gang members, while investigations into the case continue.

Commending the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its bravery and professionalism, CP Ojajuni described the operation as a major success in the Command’s ongoing battle against violent crime.

He said the feat demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and reinforced the Command’s determination to dismantle kidnapping syndicates operating in the state.

The police boss warned criminal elements that Ogun State would remain a hostile environment for kidnappers and other violent offenders, assuring residents that the Command would continue to deploy robust tactical operations and strengthen collaboration with communities to enhance security.

Ojajuni also urged the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in combating crime.

The Ogun State Police Command encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through its emergency and security channels, including the Gateway Shield toll-free line and other dedicated emergency numbers.
