Operatives of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Annex, Lagos, have arrested three suspects in connection with the vandalism of telecommunication infrastructure in the Ayobo area of Alimosho Local Government Area.
The Department says the suspects which include; Ezekiel Omoloye, 46, Olaoluwa Shuwunmi, 44, and Olaleye Kehinde, 41, were arrested in a pre-dawn operation on 19th June.
It states that recovered from them were a locally made pistol, one live cartridge, solar batteries, solar modules, cutting tools and four vehicles, including two tricycles and two Toyota cars.
Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of FCID Annex, AIG Simeon Akpanudom, said at a briefing, that the briefing covered the department’s activities between 30th March and 25th June.
Akpanudom said the department was also investigating the alleged counterfeiting of Baby Secret Cream, a product of Flawless Cosmetics.
He said 331 cartons of suspected counterfeit products were recovered from a warehouse at the Trade Fair Market in Lagos, adding that suspected peddlers of the products had been arrested and were assisting investigators in locating additional storage facilities and identifying the fleeing mastermind.
In another case, a 22-year-old woman, Onyekachi Winner Mmerichukwu, and a nurse have been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre over allegations of obtaining money by false pretence and illegal procurement of abortion.
The petitioner, identified as Mr Olajide, alleged that Mmerichukwu falsely represented to him that she was pregnant and collected a total of N16,170,000 from him for purported antenatal and medical expenses.
Investigation allegedly revealed that a pregnancy was terminated at a medical facility in Ajah, Lagos, at about five months’ gestation.
Akpanudom said the medical director of the facility, who reportedly admitted to carrying out the procedure, was still at large.
On overall performance, the AIG said the Annex received 1,762 letters of complaint during the period.
Of these, 1,725 were referred for investigation, 56 cases were concluded and filed in court, and 18 were referred to state commissioners of police.
INTERPOL operations during the period led to the rescue of 45 persons from traffickers, while four human trafficking suspects were arrested.
Key operations include the June 19 arrest of three suspected telecom facility vandals at Ayobo, Alimosho LGA.
Police recovered a locally made pistol, live cartridge, solar batteries, modules, cable cutters, a tricycle, Toyota Camry, and Toyota Sienna allegedly used to vandalize critical infrastructure.
The Annex also busted a warehouse at Balogun Trade Fair Market and recovered 331 cartons of counterfeit “Baby Secret Cream” following a petition from Flawless Cosmetics.
AIG Akpanudom said the Annex boosted investigative capacity by training 30 detectives on crypto tracing with US Diplomatic Security Services and IRS, and 6 personnel on ethical standards with Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
He cited ongoing infrastructure upgrades and stronger stakeholder engagement with royal fathers, Lagos Chief Judge, NAFDAC, NBA Lagos, and diplomatic missions.
