The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its readiness to support the effective implementation of State Police, where adopted while ensuring the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and operational excellence guide the process in the interest of national security.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, made this known while declaring open a One-Day Sensitisation Workshop on State Police organised by the Nigeria Institute of Police Studies (NIPS).

Disu described the workshop as a vital platform for equipping officers with the requisite knowledge to engage constructively in the ongoing national discourse and contribute meaningfully to the implementation of future policing reforms.

The Inspector-General urged participants to take full advantage of the workshop by actively engaging in the discussions and sharing the knowledge acquired with officers in their respective Commands and Formations to promote a common understanding of the proposed reform across the Force.

In his welcome address, the Director-General of the Nigeria Institute of Police Studies, Professor Olu Ogunshakin, commended the Inspector-General for constituting the Nigeria Police Force Steering Committee on State Police.

Ogunshakin noted that several of its recommendations have been reflected in the proposed State Police Bill.

He described the Committee’s work as a significant contribution to the ongoing policing reform process.

The workshop forms part of the Nigeria Police Force’s broader commitment to ensuring that its personnel are adequately prepared for emerging policing reforms while sustaining professionalism, operational effectiveness, and public confidence in policing across the country.
