The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) has committed to bolstering the Force’s operational capacity through targeted interventions in training, equipment, and mobility ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

Its Executive Secretary, Mohammed Seidu, made the pledge during the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026), held at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre, Owerri.

Delivering a goodwill remark, Seidu emphasised that adequate capacity must underpin operational planning to guarantee peaceful elections.

The retreat, themed “Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections,” seeks to establish a practical, coordinated blueprint for national election security.

“Our role at the NPTF is clear: we must continue to support the Force in three critical areas – training, equipment, and mobility,” the Executive Secretary stated, highlighting that procurement interventions will align directly with the primary operational needs identified by police leadership.

Key focus areas outlined by the NPTF included targeted training, essential equipment, and enhanced mobility.

Beyond logistical support, Seidu noted the link between police conduct and public trust, adding that officers at polling units are the most visible face of election security.

Senior officers were urged to enforce strict standards of professionalism, impartiality, and legal compliance to foster voter confidence.

He reminded command leaders that long-term capacity building must extend beyond a single election cycle to permanently strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
