Authorities of the Lagos State Police Command have reassured residents that there is no verified intelligence indicating any imminent attack on schools following the circulation of a threatening notice alleging that bandits planned to abduct schoolchildren in parts of the state.

The command says it had become aware of reports concerning a notice purportedly pasted at a school warning of a planned attack by bandits.

In a statement issued and signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi on Monday,

It, however, urged parents, guardians, school authorities and residents not to panic, stressing that there is currently no credible intelligence to support the claim.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has ordered an immediate assessment of the situation and directed the deployment of enhanced security measures across the affected area and other strategic locations within the state.

CP Fatai disclosed that police personnel, working in collaboration with other security agencies, have been deployed to schools, critical infrastructure and communities to ensure the safety of residents and prevent any potential security breaches.

He further emphasised that Lagos State remains secure and that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating or operating within the state.

The Lagos Police boss warned that it would not tolerate any attempt by bandits, kidnappers or other criminal elements to threaten public safety, adding that individuals found engaging in activities capable of causing fear, panic or insecurity would face the full weight of the law.

While calling for calm, CP Fatai encouraged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.

He noted that effective policing depends on strong collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public, urging residents to promptly report suspicious persons, objects, movements or activities through the nearest police station or designated emergency channels.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the continued safety, security and well-being of all residents, assuring the public that security agencies remain on alert and fully prepared to respond to any threat to peace and public order.
