Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three suspected robbers in the Idimu area of Lagos, recovering a motorcycle, weapons, and other items believed to have been stolen from victims.
The suspects were apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at about 2:00 a.m., during a routine patrol along Car Wash Bus-Stop by First Bank in Idimu, in what the command described as a proactive policing effort to curb criminal activities across the state.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the operatives intercepted the suspects while they were riding on a Bajaj motorcycle under suspicious circumstances.
“Our operatives on routine patrol observed the three individuals on a motorcycle at about 2:00 a.m. and, acting on reasonable suspicion, intercepted them for a search,” she said.
The suspects could not provide satisfactory explanations for their movement at that hour, which prompted a thorough search.
She identified the suspects as Abdullahi Mustapha, 20; Salisu Sannusi, 30; and Jamiu Sahidu, 26.
According to her, a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a machete concealed in their clothing, an army camouflage uniform, four mobile phones, a power bank, some squeezed naira notes, and the Bajaj motorcycle with registration number AKD 40 OM.
Items recovered from the suspects include a machete hidden in their clothing, an army camouflage uniform, four mobile phones suspected to have been unlawfully taken from victims, a power bank, some cash, and a Bajaj motorcycle used for mobility in carrying out their operations,” Adebisi stated.
Preliminary investigations, she added, revealed that the suspects had been involved in robbing unsuspecting members of the public before fleeing the scene on the motorcycle.
“Initial findings indicate that the suspects specialise in robbing unsuspecting members of the public and quickly escaping using the motorcycle recovered from them,” she disclosed.
Their mode of operation points to a pattern of opportunistic attacks, particularly during late hours.”
The Police spokesperson confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to unravel the full extent of their activities and possible links to other crimes
The suspects are in custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine the scope of their operations and identify other accomplices, if any,” she said.
They will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reiterating the Command’s commitment to ensuring safety across Lagos, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
The Lagos State Police Command remains resolute in its mandate to safeguard lives and property, Adebisi added.
We encourage the public to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
She further emphasised the importance of community support in sustaining security gains across the State.
Security is a collective responsibility. Timely and credible information from the public greatly enhances our ability to prevent and respond to crime effectively,” she noted.
Residents were also advised to make use of the Command’s emergency lines to report incidents or suspicious activities.
“We urge residents to take advantage of our emergency lines and reach out whenever necessary. Prompt reporting can make a critical difference in crime prevention,” Adebisi said.
The Command reassured Lagosians of its continued resolve to intensify patrols and strategic operations aimed at keeping criminal elements at bay.
