The Lagos State Police Command has intensified its clampdown on vehicles with unauthorised tinted glasses.
This became imperative as the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led an operation across the state to enforce the directive of the Police High Command.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun had given a directive that from 2nd October all State Police Command must clampdown on unauthorised users of vehicle tinted glasses in their domain.
CP Jimoh said the directive is aimed at curbing criminal activities, boosting public safety, and ensuring adherence to traffic regulations.
Speaking during the exercise, Jimoh stressed that the move is not targeted at inconveniencing law-abiding citizens but at protecting lives and property.
He warned that vehicles with tinted glasses without valid permits will be impounded, with offenders prosecuted in line with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004.
The Police Commissioner further directed officers to conduct the operation with professionalism and zero tolerance for harassment or extortion, warning that erring officers and their commanders will face sanctions.
The Commissioner urged residents to cooperate with officers and report any misconduct through its dedicated hotlines and verified social media platforms.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and safeguarding Lagos residents.
Motorists were advised to obtain permits via http://www.possap.gov.ng or remove unauthorised tints.
