The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents that there is no cause for alarm following a viral video that surfaced on social media showing a large number of young men reportedly arriving in Lagos and gathering in front of the Dano Company premises in the Ibeju-Lekki area.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin says upon receipt of the report on May 14, 2025, the Command immediately dispatched a team of officers to the location for verification.

Hundeyin said in a statement that preliminary investigations confirmed that the young men had arrived from Katsina State and were legitimately recruited to work as labourers at the Dangote Refinery in Lekki.

A contractor working with the refinery presented himself to the police and provided documented evidence that he was responsible for sourcing and bringing the workers from Katsina for lawful employment.

His statement was further corroborated by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the refinery, who affirmed that the labourers were registered, cleared, and had undergone security screening before being granted access to the refinery’s residential and operational premises.

All individuals were subjected to thorough security checks by the police. No weapons or illegal items were found in their possession.

Furthermore, each individual presented valid National Identification Numbers (NINs), which were duly verified by the authorities.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, called on the public to remain calm and responsible, especially in the digital space, by refraining from spreading unverified or sensational content that could incite fear, ethnic tension, or public unrest.

Jimoh emphasised that the Command remains alert and proactive in its duty to protect lives and property across the state.

He said the Police Command remained committed to transparency, professionalism, and the safety of all residents.

The Police Boss said any suspicious movement or activities should be reported immediately through official channels for swift response and clarification.
