The Lagos State Police Command has commenced the enforcement of the mandatory minimum Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
According to the Command, the exercise, which took effect from 1st February, 2025, requires all vehicle owners in the state to possess valid insurance coverage.
According to Police Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, motorists without any form of insurance have been urged to obtain the required coverage immediately.
Hundeyin said the Command warned that non-compliance will attract strict penalties, saying these may include fines, other legal sanctions, or both.
According to him, the enforcement is designed to ensure compliance with insurance regulations, providing protection for vehicle owners and other road users in the event of accidents.
Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, directed officers involved in the exercise to carry out their duties with professionalism and courtesy while maintaining firmness in enforcement.
Ishola also emphasised that no form of misconduct towards the public would be tolerated.
He called for cooperation from the public, stressing that adherence to the policy benefits all road users by promoting accountability and financial responsibility in the event of accidents.
