The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA, has commemorated the International Day of the Boy Child through its Kings Club Initiative in some selected schools across the State.

Speaking at the event, DSVA Executive Secretary, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi said sixteenth May every year has been designated as the International Day of the Boy Child, adding that the 2023 theme, “BOYS CRY TOO”, was specifically chosen to create awareness on the need to draw more attention to the Boy Child.

Vivour-Adeniyi, who spoke through Head of Community Engagement, Damilare Adewusi, noted that there is a need to focus on their well-being, while also proritising their happiness, health and value within the family and the community.

According to her, the Day was founded in 2018 by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, a university lecturer from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The representatives of the Agency were at various Schools including Agidingbi Grammar School, Agidingbi; Ojodu Junior High School, Ojodu: Babs Fafunwa Memorial Senior Secondary School, Ikeja; Bolade Junior Grammar School, Oshodi; Unity Junior High School and Immaculate Senior High School among others to give talks on mental health.

They stressed the importance of equipping the Boy-Child by the Parents, Guardians and teachers in order to have a positive impact on their growth and future development.
