The Lagos State Coordinating Office of the Agro Processing, Productivity Enhancement, and Livelihood Improvement Support, APPEALS, Project won the inaugural edition of The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards, TNBA, organised by the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria.

Lagos APPEALS Project through its sponsored programme ‘APPEALS HALF HOUR’ on Eko 89.7 FM, won the ‘Best Original Radio Production in English Award.’

The Award was presented to Eko 89.7 fm as the Best radio station, original production in business, drama and sports English language, Appeals, Half Hour of the Year was Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, organisers of the Nigeria Broadcasting.
The award was received by the General Manager of Eko 89.7 FM, Jide Lawal, during The Nigeria Broadcasting Awards held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
APPEALS HALF HOUR programme was one of the six programmes nominated for the Best Original Radio Production in English Award.
Speaking on the achievement, APPEALS Project Coordinator, Oluranti Sagoe-Oviebo, dedicated the award to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, staff and management of the Ministry of agriculture and APPEALS Project for impacting farmers positively in Lagos State.
Receiving the awards, General Manager Radio/Lagos Eko FM, Olajide Lawal said the award was in recognation of the good work the station had been doing and a further call to duty to continue putting out qualitative programs.
The General Manager commended the organizer for deeming it fit to recognise people in Lagos state.
Presenter of Appeals Half Hour program, Gbenga Alli-Balogun, said the win was a team work from
the management of the station.
On Wednesday, the broadcasters, and other invited guests from all over Nigeria assembled at the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos, for the maiden edition of The Nigerian Broadcasting Award (TNBA).
TNBA is organised by the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, BON, with the aim of recognising and rewarding excellence in the broadcast media industry.
The maiden edition of the award got off on a strong note as TNBA received over 400 entries of broadcast programmes aired between first August, 2021, and thirty-one December 2022.
Entries were submitted by broadcasters across the six regions of the country as they put up their best works to stake a claim for the coveted prize.
TNBA honoured veteran broadcasters who made an invaluable impact on the growth of the industry.
Dignitaries honoured include Dr Christopher Kolade, former Managing Director, National Broadcasting Corporation; Vincent Maduka, former Director-General, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA); Mallam Mohammed Ibrahim, former Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and NTA.
High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, founder DAAR Communications and Michael Ajegbo, founder, Minaj Broadcasting, Obosi were celebrated for their contributions to the growth of broadcasting in Nigeria, while posthumous awards were given to Ambassador Segun Olusola, Mike Enahoro, Dahiru Modibbo and Kunle Olasope, for their meritorious contributions to the broadcast industry.
Nominees for the awards were drawn by an impartial seven-man panel of judges comprising seasoned broadcasters and communications practitioners, after which the list was open to the public for voting.
On the judges panel were former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Emeka Mba; ace broadcaster, Deborah Omowunmi Odutayo, Aro Leonard, Executive Director at the West Africa Broadcast and Media Academy (WABMA); Bello Sule, organiser of the 1988 Nigerian Festival of Television Programmes (NIFETEP); Lady Susan Ngozi Agbo of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Kayode Qosim Olowu, representative of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) and Stella Erhunmwunsee of NBC.

The awards ceremony was broadcast live on Africa Magic Family available on DStv and GOtv, NTA, AIT, Channels TV, TVC, Arise TV, Silverbird TV and other BON member stations, at 6:30 pm. The coverage was also extend to all state-owned TV and radio stations.
TNBA, organised by Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON), is aimed at recognising and rewarding excellence in the broadcast media industry.
Nigerian broadcast professionals will be hounoured at the event with awards across 20 different categories as voted by the public.
BON Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, said TNBA would inspire up-coming talents and spur broadcast professionals to do more for the industry.
