One of the roles of the Nigerian Navy is strategic sealift which NNS KADA performed commendably to support the ECOWAS mandate in line with Nigerian’s foreign policy objectives.

Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS KADA returns from Guinea Bissau after disembarking military hardware’s in Guinea Bissau.

It sailed sixth August from Lagos for Guinea Bissau in actualisation of the Federal Government’s directive for the Nigerian Navy to convey military hardware meant for own troops in carrying out stabilisation mission in Guinea Bissau.

This is according to the Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo during the return of NNS KADA after seventeen days at sea.
According to him, NNS KADA’s Voyage to and from Guinea Bissau to Lagos was the first national assignment after she arrived from the United Arab Emirates twenty-seventh May.
Gambo emphasised that there is no doubt that the Nigerian Navy would continue to leverage on the sealift capability as it seeks further collaboration with Sister services.
He asserted that it is pertinent to state that Nigerian maintains a contingent in Guinea Bissau, hence the equipment NNS KADA took to Guinea Bissau was for the Nigerian Contingent.
Gambo commended them for their efforts, saying he was particularly impressed there were no negative reports bordering on issues of indiscipline during the mission.
According to him, the national assignment is based on the ECOWAS protocols and commend the manner in which they discharged the duties.
In his words, they have assisted the primary and strategic capacity of sealift to emplace the Nigerian contingent in the ECOWAS stabilising force in Guinea Bissau.
According to him, other participating countries used other forms of transportation such as air and road to emplace their military hardware, but the Nigerian Navy used it’s sealift capability to emplace their contingent making them the only nation within the sub-region to do this.
He added that the mission has foreign relation imperative and dividends and the projects the Nigerian Navy’s capacity and capability in the West African sub region.

Senior Naval officers who accompanied the representative of the Chief of the Naval Staff to receive NNS KADA were Rear Admiral Yakubu Wambai, the Flag officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Monday Unurhiere, Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command, Rear Admiral Kohath Levi, Representative of the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Doctrine Command, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Beckley, Admiral Superintendent Naval Ordinance Deport.
Others are Rear Admiral Hamza Kaoje, Chief Staff Officer, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Olusola Oluwagbire, Director of Operations, Rear Admiral Samson Bura, Fleet Commander Western Fleet and other senior officers of the Western Naval Command.
