Equipment such as patrol vehicles, trucks, boots and other traffic control gadgets were presented to the new LASTMA Area Command in the Lekki Free Zone axis by the Lagos State Government.

This is in proactive demonstration and commitment of the government to stemming current and future rise in traffic in communities within Ibeju-Lekki, Eleko and Akodo areas.
According to Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, and Cooperatives, Dr. Lola Akande, the intention of government is to reduce man hours wasted on road to aid efficient and effective business operations at the optimal level.

In her words, the influx of global businesses and investments such as the Dangote Refinery, Alaro City and the Lekki Deep Sea Port into the axis has given rise to heavy traffic logjams within the corridor.
She said this at the presentation of Startup Equipment and Supplies for the Inauguration of LASTMA Command at the Lekki Free Zone, Ibeju-Lekki, Eleko, Akodo.

Handing over equipment that would aid the control of traffic in and around the bustling Lekki corridor of Lagos, the Commissioner of Commerce, Industry, and Co-operatives, also doubled as the inauguration of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) at the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

Dr. Akande appreciated the government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his THEMES agenda making the project possible.
She acknowledged the influx of businesses in Ibeju Lekki which has given rise to high volume of traffic while it became imperative for the governor to tackle the menace of gridlocks which might arise while calling for synergy among stakeholders to enable the LASTMA carry out its duties effectively.

Akande emphasised that a strategic project as the new LASTMA Area Command requires continuous synergy amongst all Stakeholders so as to ensure the Command can deliver excellently on its daunting task of traffic management and control, while keeping our roads free of congestion at all times, enhancing qualify of lives of people living and working in the corridor and opening new socio-economic opportunities for the Lekki-Epe people of the State.

According to her, on our part as a State, we shall not rest on our oars in safeguarding the interests of business operators in this community and in the State in general.
We shall continue to create an enabling environment and provide platforms for business expansion. Our Government will continue to promote critical investments in human and infrastructural development in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.
With a gladsome heart, therefore, I congratulate the entire Lekki Free Zone host communities encompassing Ibeju-Lekki, Eleko, Akodo Coastal road communities for being beneficiaries of this commendable initiative which definitely would impact their lives and businesses very significantly.

Managing Director, Lekki World Wide, Dr. Babatunde Shodade also lent his voice by showcasing the importance of LASTMA Command and its strategic nature in Lekki Free Zone to help in checking traffic gridlock while also putting modalities in place that will accommodate trailers in the eventuality of fuel lift at the ports.
Council Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa who was a special guest at the Inauguration of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) at Lekki Free Zone and the Official handover of Traffic Control Equipment hailed the new development in his area.
He thanked the Governor for putting the interest of the people living in the corridor foremost on his agenda.
