The remains of the late Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, and ten other officers who died in a plane crash have arrived at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja for final interment.

The officers died on Friday, in a Beachcraft 350 aircraft at the Kaduna International Airport due to bad weather.

Their remains were today moved to the National Mosque and the Nigerian Air Force Protestant Church venues of prayers.

Their bodies were later moved to the National Military Cemetary interment ceremony.

The burial ceremony started around 2.50 pm with a profile of the late COAS read.

The fallen officers were also honoured with 21-gun salute.
Dignitaries at the event include Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Leo Irabor; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao; Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, among others.
The Nigerian Army had earlier on Friday announced the passing away of its Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru.
The sad event also claimed the lives of 10 other officers including the crew.
The Army Chief was en route Kaduna from Abuja when the unfortunate incident happened.
Earlier, a funeral service was held at the Protestant church, Airforce base, Abuja for the Christain officers while Islamic rites was held for the Muslim officers at the National Mosque.
Five ambulances conveying the bodies were received by military police officers and other dignitaries at the National Mosque for prayers.

Wives of the fallen soldiers and family members were also at the mosque wearing black outfits.
The emotion-laden family members could not hold back their tears as they receive the bodies of the slain officers.
The caskets were later taken out of the ambulances for the special prayers and then moved to the military cemetery for burial.

The five officers were in the entourage of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Ibrahim Attahiru who died in the ill-fated aircraft.
The bodies were brought to the NAF base where the funeral service was held.
The officers who are all Christians include Brigadier General Olayinka and other crew members, FLT LT T.O Asaniyi, FLT LT AA Olufade, SGT Adesina, and ACM Oyedepo.
The solemn service began with an opening prayer by the presiding priest, Reverend Group Captain Dogo Gani, Director of Chaplaincy NAF headquarters.
Some of the wives of the deceased officers could not hold back their tears at the church service.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Musa Istifanus are also at the church service.
The service ended with the pale bearers moving the coffins out of the Chapel for the burial ceremony at the National military cemetery.
