Lagos State Government through its Special Taskforce on Land grabbing has between April 2020 to April 2021 restored the land of 159 citizens whose land was illegally diverted by land grabbers popularly known as “Omo Onile”.

Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo made the disclosure during the 2021 Ministerial Press Briefing.

Onigbanjo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria said to further enlighten the citizenry on the menace of land grabbing, the Special Taskforce on Land Grabbers coordinated by Owolabi Arole, is to hold a series stakeholders sensitisations in six divisions of Lagos State.

“The first was held on April 22, 2021 at Ikorodu, being one of the major areas in the state where the atrocities of land grabbers are prevalent,” the Attorney-General said.

Throwing some light on other areas the Lagos State Ministry of Justuce has protected the rights of citizens, Onigbanjo said that the Office of the Public Offender (OPD) during the period under review (April 2020 – April 2021), attended to 50 cases concerning the rescue of abused children and defended 410 inmates.

He noted that the during the #EndSARS crisis of October 2020, the OPD through its services helped secure the release of 198 #EndSARS-related inmates.

“During the period under review, the courts delivered 121 judgments and rulings (82 in favor of OPD clients and 39 against).

“The OPD also recovered the sum of N 67, 305, 422 on behalf of indigent persons,” he said.
