Plans are being put in place to commence a capacity building training for driving school instructors in Lagos State.
Acting General Manager, Lagos State Drivers’ Institute, LASDRI, Afusat Tiamiyu, made this known at the Institute’s headquarters in Oshodi during a stakeholders’ meeting with Driving School Association of Nigeria.
Tiamiyu said the proposed training is part of the mandate of the Institute to provide course of instructions, training and set standards for driving schools operating in the State in collaboration with the State’s Ministry of Transportation.
She said they find it imperative to note that this training was in accordance with the dictates of the law that established LASDRI, saying the law prescribes that on a yearly basis, the Institute should bring driving school instructors in Lagos to a classroom environment where they can update their skills and knowledge in driving”.
Tiamiyu promised the Operators that the Institute will make its facilities and equipment available to them whenever the need arises.
In his response, Deputy President of South-West Zone, Driving School Association of Nigeria and Proprietor of De-Jokas Driving School, Akinola Akin Ojo, appreciated the efforts of the Institute, saying that the meeting is a sign of the cordial relationship that exists between the Institute and the Association.
Akin Ojo, however, appealed to the Institute to make the meeting quarterly so that the operators can be carried along in all government-related transportation policies, activities and development in the State.
He also suggested that the training should not be for Driving School Instructors only, but should also include Driving School Operators as this will bring about improvement in the performance of driving schools in the Lagos state.
