Most of the violent crimes committed in Lagos State are resolved through scientific approach of modern day policing.

According to Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, crime had become very sophisticated all over the world, asserting that it should be fought with higher precision, if the desired result could be achieved.

Edgal while addressing African Security Chiefs in faraway Gambia urged governments of African countries to desist from the traditional ways of tackling crime, but rather adopt the use of modern technology.

Delivering, a paper titled: “The Use of Sciences in modern Day Policing: The Lagos Example”, he said Lagos as an example of a mega city across the globe, was bedeviled with various patterns of crimes that characterised a mega city, such as armed robbery, murder, internet fraud, kidnapping, trans-border crimes, among others.

He said the high rate of migration of people seeking greener pastures with the resultant effect of unprecedented rise in population, without corresponding social infrastructure in place, couple with the scanty socio-economic infrastructure result in vearious security challenges.

The Police Boss was honoured with two categories of award: The Golden Star Award for Urban Crime Control and the Most Outstanding Urban Crime Control Command in West and Central Africa, at the fifteenth Security Watch Africa, Awards, Conference and Exhibition, in Banjul.
