Rapid Response Squad,RRS, a unit of the Lagos State Police Command has emphasised the importance of synergy among agencies of government involved in emergency response services as an avenue for enhancing security and rescue operations in the State.
According to its Commander, Olatunji Disu, collaboration of the security outfit with other agencies such as the Fire Service and the Lagos State Ambulance Services, LASAMBUS, led to the prompt rescue of victims of fire incidents and building collapse in Lagos last month.
Disu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police said an immediate response to a distress call by the RRS in May facilitated the rescue of twenty fire victims and thirteen accidents victims at various locations in the State.
Citing the positive results of synergy among the agencies of government, he said upon receipt of a distress call about a fire incident at 22, Bello Street, Ekoro Road, Abule-Egba earlier this year, RRS operatives swiftly contacted the fire service, barricaded the area to keep hoodlums at bay and ensured the inferno was successfully put off.
He said the RRS, in conjunction with the Lagos State Fire Service, similarly quelled a raging fire behind Olumegbon Palace, Ajah, confirming that “RRS vehicles were dispatched to the scene following a distress call received at 15:00hrs on May 7 this year and evacuated all persons to safety. No life was lost”.
Disu said the harmony between the State anti-crime outfit and other emergency rescue agencies of government also aided the quick termination of fire incidents at Itohan Avenue, off Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja; John Street, Idumota, Lagos Island; Obanle-Aro Crescent, off Town Planning Way, Ilupeju and Jakande Estate, Lekki, Phase One respectively.
He said RRS and LASAMBUS jointly rescued accidents victims involved in a motor accident while commuting from Ikeja to Agege, saying government remained committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents through the provision of efficient and instantaneous service delivery.
The Commander assured that the present administration, through the Rapid Response Squad, would continually harness the cordial relationship that exists between the Emergency Rescue groups in Lagos to guarantee that prompt attention was given to fire, building collapse and road accident victims in all local governments and local council development areas of the State.
