One hundred and thirty-three thousand, three hundred and twenty-four applicants have been shortlisted for screening for the recruitment of six thousand constables into the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the Police Service Commission, the exercise would commence on Monday in the thirty-six state Police command headquarters and the Federal Capital Territory.

Commission’s Spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, said the exercise would start with screening of the applicants’ physical attributes and their credentials, saying already, invitations had been sent to the applicants who were expected to report at the screening venues on days indicated in their invitations.

Ani said Kaduna State had the highest number of applicants with six thousand, nine hundred and sixty-two, Katsina was second with six thousand six hundred and seventy-six, followed by Benue and Niger with six thousand four hundred and seventy-four and six thousand four hundred and nine.

According to him, Ebonyi had one thousand three hundred and three, followed by Anambra with one thousand one hundred and seventeen, Bayelsa with one thousand and ninety-seven while Lagos had the least with one thousand and thirteen.

The spokesman said the commission had deployed its staff to the thirty-six states of the federation and the FCT to conduct the exercise, saying Chairman of the Commission, Mike Okiro, was the National Coordinator for the exercise.

According to him, the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Commission, Musa Istifanus, had warned that the Commission would sanction any staff found to be compromising the exercise.

Istifanus warned the staff against undue influence, as their activities would be closely monitored, saying anybody that has nothing to do with the exercise should stay away from the vicinity of the screening.

President Muhammadu Buhari recently gave approval for the recruitment of 6,000 policemen to address the nation’s security challenges.
