Policemen in Lagos are not enough to secure the state.

Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi cried out today, saying seventeen thousand policemen were protecting twenty-three million people in Lagos, meaning that one policeman was protecting approximately one thousand three hundred and fifty-three people.

Imohimi said this was against the United Nations recommendation of one police officer to four hundred and fifty citizens.

Speaking at the Eminent Personality security stakeholders meeting organised by the Area ‘G’ Command today, Imohimi said the way out was for members of the public to take security seriously by knowing their neighbours.

He said in line with his community policing strategy, he had urged residents to set up the Vigilantee Group and the police were to go out with them at night, saying the police needed the partnership of members of the public as the police cannot do it alone.

Members of the public also urged the Commissioner of Police to provide patrol vehicles and other logistics to the police in Alimosho Local Government Area.

Nigeria itself has approximately 370,000 to 170million people.
