Acting Lagos State Police Commissioner, Edgal Imohimi says the command would provide temporary accommodation for ten families displaced by the recent fire incident at the Panti Police Barracks in the state.
Panti Police Barracks was gutted by fire on Monday, a similar incident had occurred at the barracks in March last year.
Imohimi gave the assurance when the wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Asmau Idris, paid him a courtesy visit in Lagos on Thursday, the fire incident was an unfortunate one and all we have to do is to ameliorate the suffering of the displaced families.
“We have reached out to our partners to get the displaced families a suitable accommodation while the barracks will be rebuilt.
” I have also spoken to the State and Local Government so that we get a place for them as we look for a temporary place for them to manage,“he said.
He said those traumatised by the incident and still in shock would be closely monitored and given medical attention.
Imohimi further said the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained as the fire service was yet to conclude its findings.
Earlier, Asmau described the fire incident as unfortunate and commended the police commissioner for his support to women and children.
Asmau, who also donated some relief materials to the victims, urged Imohimi to continue to support the Police Officers Wives Association, POWA.
