Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), says 382 pupils have been enrolled into nursery and primary schools at the Pompomari Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Damaturu.
Its Executive Secretary, Musa Jidawa, also stated that 37 students were admitted into class one and three in the Junior secondary school of the camp.
Jidawa said the camp was established in 2015 following Boko Haram attacks on Ambiya Kura, Ambiya Bulabulin, Ambiya Tasha, Sharfuri, Shangamari and Turo Kura villages in Gujba Local Government Area.
He said the camp commenced operation with 4,211 IDPs, but that 2,426 persons had voluntarily left to pursue means of livelihood and government supported them with food items and cash.
The executive secretary, however, said the fabricated classrooms and tents erected to serve as classrooms were grossly inadequate, saying the Nigerian Army Education Corps personnel and staff of the state Universal Basic Education Board had been teaching in the schools.
He commended the Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, Unicef, Victims Support Fund, Smyle Foundation and Hope Camp among others, for supporting education in the camp.
