Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said it will no longer tolerate motor cycles plying hinterlands in Plateau without number plates.

The Plateau Sector Commander of the corps, Patricia Emoerdi, said this on Thursday in Kanam during a courtesy visit on the traditional ruler of the area.

Emoerdi, newly posted to the state, was in Kanam as part of a familiarisation tour to the Plateau Central Senatorial District.

She sought the support of the paramount ruler at enlightening his subjects on the need to ensure safety on the highways.

She said unlicensed drivers, who had no business plying the roads, accounted for most road crashes in the state in recent times.

She observed that most of the motor cycles in the hinterlands of the state were plying without number plates which was unlawful.

According to her, it made them easy targets for thieves and also difficult for identification during accidents and investigations.

She said the corps would no longer tolerate such illegal activities among motorcyclists in the hinterland and was out to arrest and heavily fine offenders including unlicensed drivers.

Emir of Kanam in Plateau, Mua’azu Babangida, said there was an urgent need to include the traditional institution in the constitution beyond the mention of its role.

According to him, mere mention of the institutions role in the constitution was not enough recognition as the institution did not lack roles.

The Emir commended the efforts of FRSC in saving and preserving lives of Nigerians plying the roads across the country and pledged to give the corps the desired cooperation and assistance for it to succeed in its herculean tasks.

He wished the new sector commander success on the Plateau, and called on government to do more in enlightening the public on its policies and programmes to enable them to key into them for the desired results.
