Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Rabi’u Yusuf, has appealed to residents of the state to provide security agents with timely and credible information about activities of criminals.
Yusuf made the appeal during an interaction session between the Eminent Persons’ Forum and senior officers of the command in Kano on Wednesday.
The meeting was initiated by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, when he served in the state as Commissioner of Police.
According to the commissioner,the police will act promptly on credible and timely information made available.
Yusuf assured the residents that the command would treat any information given to the police with utmost confidentiality.
He said the command would soon get additional manpower as the inspector-general of Police had promised to provide the state with additional personnel.
“We are expecting additional manpower as soon as the 7,500 recruits currently undergoing training complete the training,” Yusuf said.
He said as part of efforts to check the activities of criminals in Kano metropolis, especially thugs (Yandaba), the police had recently embarked on daily raid of suspected criminals’ hideouts.
“Fifteen of the thugs (yandaba) arrested were convicted recently without option of fine,” Yusuf said.
The Chairman of Eminent Persons’ Forum, Amb. Mukhtar Gashash, reminded members of the Forum of the need to promote peaceful co-existence among various ethnic groups in the state.
He said the Forum would continue to partner with the police to curb criminal activities in the state.
“The meeting will give stakeholders the opportunity to discuss the various security challenges facing their respective areas with a view to proffering solutions to the problem,” Gashash said.
