Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone two, Kayode Aderanti, has warned that anyone caught carrying out jungle justice would face the consequence of his action.
Aderanti spoke when members of a non-governmental organisation, Centre for Change, led by its President, Joe Okei-Odumakin, came on a sensitization visit to the zonal command headquarters in Lagos.
He said some reports of killings through jungle justice in the country were saddening, saying self-help does not help the society, people must believe in the system, and Nigerians should believe in the police and the judiciary to carry out criminal justice.
He commended Okei-Odumakin and her group for doing a noble job, assuring that the police would always give them support when needed.
Speaking earlier, Okei-Odumakin said the visit was to seek the AIG’s collaboration in fighting against jungle justice and domestic violence.
The activist said domestic violence was being perpetrated by men and women in some homes, urging the police to help in stemming the tide.
She said prosecution of offenders would go a long way in deterring others from committing such crimes.
More than 100 officers and men participated in the sensitization forum.
