Nigerian Navy has restated its commitment to improving the welfare of personnel for effective and efficient service delivery.
Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, stated this at the end of Navy’s second quarter route march in Abuja.
Ibas, who was represented by the Group Managing Director, Navy Holdings Limited, Rear-Admiral Babalola Egbedina, explained that the exercise was to keep the personnel fit and ready for challenges of the job, saying efforts were being made to ensure the personnel who were behind the equipment were physically fit.
According to him, Physically fit personnel are less likely to commit blunders while operating their equipment. So, physical fitness is just the sole reason for the exercise.
Ibas said the exercise would also present the personnel the opportunity to get together, saying it was designed as to be a quarterly programme.
He said a military personnel who was not mentally and physically fit would find it difficult to discharge his or her responsibilities as expected of him or her.
The Chief of Naval Staff said the commands of the service were engaged in preparations for testing of some naval equipment, adding that officers and men displayed the capability of the navy during its recent diamond jubilee celebration.
