A Mobile Court has convicted 49 drivers for violation of road traffic regulations during a special patrol in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area, Kaduna State, by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
FRSC Legal Officer, Kaduna Sector Command, Ibrahim Tanko, said the offenders were convicted by mobile court after their arrest.
The official said eight of the offenders were convicted for light sign violation, seven for driving with worn out tyres or without spare tyre and four for vehicle licence violation.
Eight others he said were convicted for drivers’ license violation, five for fire extinguisher violation, nine for seat belt violation, three for over loading and one for number plate violation.
He said four others were convicted for obstructing marshal on duty, operating vehicle with forged document, caution sign violation and vehicle windshield violation respectively.
In a related development, the Sector Commander, Francis Udoma said the command has deployed 216 marshals for a seven-day special patrol along major highways in the state to ensure accident free sallah celebration.
Udoma said the operation became necessary following heavy traffic being recorded along major highways in the state, particularly Kaduna-Abuja Expressway.
According to him, the traffic build up along the expressway, particularly in early hours of the day is unprecedented.
Udoma, expressed confidence that the operation which began on July 3 would be successful, adding that all logistics had been deployed to ensure that no live was lost throughout the Eid-El-Fitr celebration.
He appealed to road users to check their tyres to ascertain their validity before embarking on a journey.
He equally urged motorists to drive at the recommended speed limits as that would enable them drive to safety.
He commended the Kaduna State Government for establishing Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (KASTELEA) to enforce traffic regulations in the state.
