In a move aimed at expanding advanced professional and security education in the institution, the National Universities Commission, NUC, has approved 10 new postgraduate programmes for the Nigeria Police Academy, POLAC, Wudil, Kano State.
The approval followed a resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC, during which the commission assessed the Academy’s facilities, academic resources, and staff capacity for the proposed programmes.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Academy, DSP Umar Isah, the newly approved programmes will run on a full-time basis and cover various fields, including security studies, law, management, science, and economics.
The programmes include Master’s and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) degrees in Crime Management, Prevention and Control; PGD in Peace and Conflict Studies; PGD in Police Studies; Master’s in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship; and postgraduate programmes in Management Studies.
Others are postgraduate degrees in Law, Biochemistry, Financial Economics, and Forensic DNA studies.
The Academy said the approval represents a significant milestone in its efforts to strengthen capacity building, research, and professional development within the security sector and beyond.
It explained that while the institution has traditionally focused on the training of police officers, the newly approved programmes will also be open to personnel of other security and intelligence agencies, and qualified members of the public.
The statement noted that the expansion of postgraduate studies aligns with the Academy’s mandate to promote academic excellence and provide specialized knowledge in areas critical to national security and development.
The institution added that details on admission requirements, application procedures, and registration timelines would be announced in due course.
The Nigeria Police Academy is one of the country’s foremost institutions for police training and higher education, offering programmes designed to enhance professionalism and leadership within the security sector.
