The outgoing Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, says the command recorded zero kidnapping and a sharp drop in major crimes during his tenure.

Jimoh, now promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police and redeployed to head Zone 2 Command, handed over to Fatai Tijani on Thursday in Ikeja, expressing confidence in his successor to sustain the gains.

He said his tenure was marked by improved operational efficiency, enhanced public safety and innovative policing, urging officers, stakeholders and residents to support the new commissioner.

Key achievements, he noted, include the deployment of a 24-hour CCTV surveillance system, seamless security for major events such as the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations and international competitions, and peaceful local government elections without security breaches.

Jimoh attributed the successes to teamwork within the command and the expansion of specialised units.

According to him, these include the Coastline Patrol Force, Anti-Crime Patrol and Community Protection Squads, which strengthened security coverage statewide.

He said the units, supported by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund led by Ayo Ogunsan, improved rapid response and reduced fear of crime in communities.

On welfare, Jimoh commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for increasing officers’ allowances and supporting law enforcement operations.

He also highlighted strengthened youth-police engagement programmes to build trust and cooperation.

Jimoh said the state maintained internal security stability with no major breach of public peace, noting arrests and ongoing prosecutions in high-profile cases, including the killing of six traders in Owode-Onirin.

He thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and officers of the command for their support, describing Lagos’ security architecture as among the best in the country.

The outgoing commissioner also announced the approval of seven new police divisions, Banana Island, Park Real Estate, Oshodi, Eleko, Airport, National Theatre and Lekki, to boost security presence.

“Divisional Police Officers have been deployed and operations have commenced. Residents are urged to cooperate with officers to enhance safety,” he said.

In his remarks, Tijani pledged to build on the achievements.

“I am honoured to serve and will work with all stakeholders to sustain peace and strengthen security in Lagos,” he said.
