Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh has pledged stricter discipline among officers and stronger community policing as efforts to enhance security across the state.

Jimoh made the pledge on Thursday at a news conference on directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Police Officers’ Mess Ikeja.

According to him, the directives are aimed at strengthening professionalism, improve supervision of officers and ensuring that police operations align with international best practices.

In his words; Officers of the Nigeria police force have been directed to uphold discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their duties and respect for human rights.

He noted that the command would intensify mentoring and training of personnel to improve their operational capacity and promote ethical conduct.

Jimoh said they must ensure proper supervision and discipline of our officers, while protecting the rights of citizens in line with global policing standards.

The commissioner also emphasised the importance of community policing, stressing that closer collaboration between the police and residents would help address security challenges more effectively.

He added that community engagements would enable the police to better understand local concerns and deploy strategies tailored to the needs of different communities.

Jimoh assured Lagos residents that the command remained committed to ensuring safety across the state, saying People must feel safe in their homes, on the streets and at their places of work.

He said the command would continue to implement strategies aimed at crime prevention and control, while strengthening cooperation with other security agencies.

The commissioner expressed appreciation to the I-G for providing strategic direction to improve the nation’s security architecture.

He also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his immense and consistent support to the command.

He noted that the governor’s commitment to strengthening security had greatly assisted the command.

“The state government’s support in logistics, operational resources and collaboration with security agencies has helped maintain peace and stability across the state, ” he said.

Jimoh reaffirmed that the command would sustain efforts to maintain peace and security, protect investments and ensure safety of residents and visitors in the state.
