
The Nigeria Police Force is ready to provide adequate security for the FCT-Abuja Area Council election and the State Constituencies bye-elections in Kano and Rivers States.
The Force says it will ensure massive deployments of police officers during all elections in Nigeria, with the aim of ensuring peaceful and violence-free elections.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun states that the Force will continue to put in place effective operational planning in ensuring success of every election in Nigeria, and the successes recorded in the last Anambra State Governorship election will be replicated in future elections.
Egbetokun spoke through Head of the Special Intervention Squad; Elections Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation; and Safe School Protection Squad, CP Abayomi Shogunle at a High-Level meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security at the INEC Headquarter, Abuja.
According to him, the force is focused on providing adequate security to all staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, electoral materials and all INEC facilities across Nigeria at all times.
He said the force as the lead agency in elections/electoral security will continue to ensure coordination/synergy among all security/safety agencies-members of Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security in archiving successful elections.
