The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has pledged renewed commitment to improving housing welfare for police officers following talks with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in Abuja.

The pledge came on Wednesday when the Managing Director of FMBN, Shehu Osidi, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters.

Housing remains one of the most pressing welfare challenges facing police personnel across Nigeria.

Many officers struggle to access affordable mortgage facilities, despite contributing to housing schemes, raising concerns about morale, productivity and long-term security for serving and retired personnel.

Strengthening institutional cooperation could help remove long-standing administrative bottlenecks that have delayed access to these benefits.

Speaking during the visit, Osidi described the Nigeria Police Force as “one of the Bank’s most strategic institutional partners.”

He thanked the Inspector-General for the warm reception and praised the Force for its cooperation with the Bank.

While acknowledging existing progress, the FMBN managing director called for deeper collaboration to ensure police officers can access housing loans “without administrative delays or disputes.”

Responding, IGP Egbetokun said the visit was “timely” and marked a significant step toward strengthening the partnership between the Police and the mortgage bank.

He stressed that alliances like this were critical to achieving sustainable housing solutions for police personnel.

He reaffirmed that the welfare of officers “remains a top priority” under his leadership, adding that access to affordable housing was essential to boosting morale among officers who risk their lives daily in service to the nation.

Both institutions are expected to review existing frameworks and streamline processes that allow officers to access mortgage facilities faster.

Further engagements may also include sensitisation programmes to help police personnel better understand available housing schemes.
