The bustling streets of Agege and Orile-Agege came alive early on Sunday, as residents, dignitaries, and political leaders converged for the much-anticipated “Run for Asiwaju 2027 Mini-Marathon”.

The event, designed to showcase solidarity and unwavering support for Nigeria President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term aspiration, drew an impressive crowd that transformed Agege Local Government Area (LGA) and Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) into a festival of energy, loyalty, and community spirit.

The race officially flagged off at the Agege Local Government Council Secretariat after participants underwent thorough medical screenings to ensure their fitness and safety.

Hundreds of eager runners lined up, their excitement palpable, as they prepared to embark on a multi-kilometer journey through designated routes that would eventually lead them to the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area Secretariat at Arigbanla Street, Abekoko Bus Stop.

Organised jointly by Executive Chairman of Orile-Agege LCDA,Akinola Abiodun Idowu (Known as Dodo) and Executive Chairman of Agege LGA, Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa (Known as Avo), the marathon carried the proud endorsement of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Addressing the crowd at the finishing-end venue, Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu (Dodo) emphasised the symbolic importance of the day.

He said it is a significant moment for the people of Agege and Orile-Agege, coming out in such numbers to run or to cheer reflects our deep appreciation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is our way of saying thank you for his continued support to our political leader, Rt. Hon (Dr) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.”

Similarly, Hon. Abdul-Kareem Jubreel (Jubi), representing Agege Constituency 02, reaffirmed the community’s loyalty and their supports, cheers together with all attendees.

Beyond the political undertones, the marathon also carried a festive spirit. Organisers, led by Mr. Dipo Liadi, supervised the winners, receiving coveted cash prizes, while the first 200 finishers were rewarded with consolation cash gifts of ₦10,000.

The closing ceremony, was done at the Orile-Agege LCDA Secretariat, while the female first winner get ₦50,000 cash prize, and ₦100,000 yearly scholarship.
