The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria, ICSAN, has explained efforts of the institute to continue to promote good corporate government across different sectors in the country.

ICSAN says good governance is not limited to just a corporate setting alone, not just the private sector alone, but it wants to also continue to see improved corporate governance practices within the public sector.
It states that the institute has consistently promoted the ideals of sound Corporate Governance and produced seasoned governance professionals who have meritoriously contributed their quota to Nigeria’s advancement.

Its President and Council Chairman, Uto Ukpanah said this while unveiling ICSAN 60th anniversary logo and outlined activities for its diamond jubilee celebration at the institute’s secretariat in Ikeja, Lagos.
The anniversary, themed “Six Decades of Excellence: Shaping Governance, Empowering Futures”, will culminate in a grand finale in Lagos, with dates yet to be announced.
Ukpanah said the anniversary year would focus on continuity, governance impact, and stakeholder engagement, saying as the voice and hub of governance professionals, the ICSAN will continue to work with stakeholders to deepen impact.
She added that the institute would encourage dialogue among business leaders, as they foresee that bringing key voices together will generate germane and thriving conversations among leaders across sectors.
Ukpanah also highlighted progress on the institute’s new national secretariat building, saying the construction, which commenced in February 2025, has progressed to the second floor.
According to her, this project represents a strategic investment in institutional sustainability and operational efficiency, and it will stand as a lasting legacy of the diamond jubilee.
She noted the landmark ceremony of ICSAN to kick off the commencement of its new national Secretariat project, to give it a more befitting secretariat, which had been its vision for many years.
In her words, the anniversary also serves as a platform to mobilise support for the project, adding that they aim to engage members, partners, corporate organisations, and well-meaning Nigerians to ensure timely completion of the secretariat.
Ukpanah urged all members to participate actively in activities to mark our diamond anniversary, to share their experiences, and to contribute to the discussions that will shape our future.
She honoured the legacy of the founding members, who had a vision to promote governance, professionalism, and excellence in the corporate secretarial and administrative profession.
The ICSAN Boss restated the commitment to pursuing the passage of the Chartered Governance Institute of Nigeria (CGIN) Bill at the National Assembly is an important milestone that the Governing Council has also committed to achieving.
Ukpanah assured that the council remains fully engaged with relevant authorities to ensure the bill becomes law.
She said over the past six decades, ICSAN has grown in stature, influence, and impact, becoming a leading professional body in Nigeria.
We’ve played a crucial role in shaping the corporate landscape, promoting best practices, and developing professionals who have made significant contributions to various sectors. As we embark on this new chapter, we recognize the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
We must continue to innovate, adapt to changing times, and remain relevant in a rapidly evolving global environment.
The ICSAN at 60 activities will be a celebration of our rich history, our achievements, and our commitment to excellence. It will be a platform to engage with stakeholders, share knowledge, and showcase our expertise.
ICSAN Vice President and Anniversary Planning Committee Chairman, Francis Olawale, emphasised ICSAN’s role in shaping governance, as Corporate governance is life, and it exists in all endeavours, from family life to associations.
Chairman of the Publicity Committee, Abiola Laseinde, said the institute has evolved into a centre of excellence in governance, as the institute has moved from being seen only as company secretaries to becoming governance professionals across sectors.
Laseinde noted that members of the institute have occupy key leadership positions in both the private and public sectors.
The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Edniesal Consulting, said ICSAN is becoming a hub for technocrats to serve government, support policy advocacy, and exchange knowledge globally.
