The FCT High Court hearing the alleged corruption case against former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has remanded him in Kuje Correctional facility pending hearing of his bail application.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had asked the Court to remand the former Minister in Correctional Facility pending his bail application.

His counsel objected and made an oral bail application for him in court asking that he be released on bail on health grounds.

The Court however remanded him in Kuje Correctional Facility and set the 15th of December for the hearing of his bail application.

The former Minister who held sway in the Labour and Employment under the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari is being taken to account for his stewardship of the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund.

The stage is now set for hearing of his bail application.

He was attacked in his home State of Anambra a few days ago before his eventual arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The arrest by the officials of the anti graft agency had initially sparked fears of an abduction until it was confirmed that he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned Former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, before an Abuja High Court in Gwarinpa over allegations of a ₦2.2 billion contract fraud.

Justice Maryam Hassan ordered that Ngige be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the determination of his bail application, which is scheduled for Monday, 15th December.

Ngige pleaded not guilty to eight counts bordering on abuse of office and acceptance of gifts from contractors of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) during his tenure as supervising minister from September 2015 to May 2023.

Following his plea, EFCC counsel, Sylvanus Tahir (SAN), requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant.
